We had the pleasure to talk with Michel Zen-Ruffinen, former FIFA General Secretary (1998-2002). With a legitimized voice on the growth and development of FIFA, we discussed key topics such as the role of the Governing Body in modern football, the controversy with Qatar 2022, the need of a reform within the organisation, the World Cup expansion, and how fans should be incorporated in football’s international agenda.
A chat that definitely delivers an interesting point of view on how changes within FIFA and in international football are not to be implemented instantly, given the heavy political component on each decision. The future of football primarily relies on the decisions made amongst all members; it is up to the fans and other stakeholders involved to generate more accountability.
